Augusta Port (Port Code: ITAUG) is a large-sized natural seaport on the shores of the island of Sicily, lying on a small promontory on the island’s southeastern shores between the Gulf of Augusta and the Ionian Sea. It has been used since ancient times and now becomes an important for Sicily, with much industrial development on the waterfront. The types of vessels regularly calling at AUGUSTA are Oil/Chemical Tanker (45%), Crude Oil Tanker (11%), General Cargo (9%), LPG Tanker (6%), Passenger Ship (4%). In 2007, 33.041 million tonnes of cargo passed through the port. Due to the oil refinery and chemical complex at the waterfront, the Port of Augusta suffers serious environmental problems.
