Belfast Port (port code: GBBEL) is Ireland’s main dry bulk port. It is situated at the west end of Belfast Lough, on the east coast of Northern Ireland.
Covering a total water area of 440 hectares, consisting of wet docks, basins and drydocks, with a total of 11,674 meters of quayage, the port has handling facilities for all types of cargo plus extensive repair services.
The port handles approximately 600 thousand tons of break bulk cargoes and three million tons of liquid bulk cargoes annually. The break bulk cargoes are dominated by timber imports from Baltic and Nordic ports. The liquid bulk cargoes are dominated by liquefied petroleum gas, molasses, bitumen, chemicals, and vegetable oils.
The port has a growing reputation as a port of call for cruise vessels, and it welcomes some of the world’s best cruise lines. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for about 62%; and tankers, taking up around 13%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 348 meters. The maximum draught is 11 meters. The maximum deadweight is 148,013t.
