Boma Port (Port Code: CDBOA) is located on portside of the Congo River. The official draft is limited to 21 ft upstream, and 21.06 feet downstream. This factor greatly limits its access to fully loaded small vessels and partially loaded big vessels (5,000 to 8,500 TPL - Tonnes de Port en Lourd). The draft limitation affects both Matadi and Boma ports.
The port is located on the right bank of the Congo River about 90 km from the Atlantic coast, just upstream of the growth area of the river, called rambling area. It handles exports of tropical timber, bananas, cacao, and palm products. Following the decrease in Mayombe production, the port was increasingly professionalized in vehicle import traffic.
The Port of Boma is the second largest maritime port in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after the Port of Matadi.
