Cagliari Port (port code: ITCAG) is one of Italy’s biggest seaports and one of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean. It is situated on the south coast of Sardinia, facing the Golfo di Cagliari.
The port has more than 5,800 meters of quays providing facilities for general, bulk, containerised and liquid cargoes and boasts one of the largest container terminals in the Mediterranean Sea. It is also a terminus for ferry and cruise passengers. The two areas of the port, the ferry/commercial port and the container terminal, are protected by breakwaters and sheltered from all directions.
The port has capacity to handle as much as 50 million tons of cargo and one million TEUs of containerized cargo per year. The principal exports leaving this port are zinc, lead, feldspar, wine and dairy products; the main imports entering this port are grain, timber, coal and general commodities.
Each year about 5,600 vessels visit this port, among which around 30% are cargo vessels, 28% are sailing vessels, and 20% are fishing vessels.
