Haldia port (port code: INHDA) is a large port in India. It is situated on the west bank of the Hooghly River, 63 nautical miles from the pilot station at Sandheads, in the Bay of Bengal.
This port comprises three river oil jetties, two river barge jetties and one wet dock system having 14 berths. It provides facilities for handling general cargo, oil tankers and bulk carriers with ore and coal. There is a container terminal designed to handle trade otherwise destined for Kolkata which due to the shallow depths of the upper Hooghly, is now forwarded by inland transport.
This port handles approximately 35,000,000t of cargo, and 150,000TEU annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for about 47%; and tankers, taking up around 42%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 244 meters. The maximum draught is 14.9 meters. The maximum deadweight is 106,516t.
