Port of Itaqui (Port Code:BRIQI) is a Brazilian port located in the city of São Luís, Maranhão. The hinterland of the Port of Itaqui encompasses the states of Maranhão, Piauí, Tocantins, southwestern Pará, northern Goiás, northeastern Mato Grosso, and western Bahia. The port of Itaqui consists of 6 operational berths, three of which are along a linear quay. Ponta da Madeira, situated 1.8nm north of Itaqui, is an iron ore terminal specifically built to handle ore mined from the Carajas region and transported via a rail link of approx 900km to the coast for export. Cargoes handled by the port include petroleum products, aluminium ingots, iron ore and pig iron, fertilisers, wheat, manganese ore, caustic soda and general cargo. Terminal da Alumar is 5nm S of Itaqui.
