Marina di Carrara (Port Code:ITMDC) is the largest world port for handling stone products and, thanks to its favourable geographical position,which is located in in Tuscany (Italy), on Carrione River, at some 100 km (62 ml) west-northwest of Florence, it is a natural outlet for many products coming and going, not only in Italy but also in Eastern and Central Europe. Both the port and dry port are served by a rail link that can receive and ship goods by rail that, with its to the proximity of the Tyrrhenian ridge, is very competitive as well as environmentally sustainable. It is also connected with the Tyrrhenian multi-modal bracket and with the Cisa crossing, with two very close motorway exits: Carrara (1 km) and Massa (5 km).
Marina di Carrara offers container, general and bulk cargo facilities within a safe harbour inside two breakwaters. The East breakwater is 610m in length and the West breakwater is 1,067m. There are four wharves, with fresh water and bunkers available. There is a major repair yard. The harbour is used for the export of the well known Carrara marble and is connected to the marble quarries by rail. Approx 3,155,300t of cargo handled annually.
