Morondava (Port Code:MGMOQ) is a small commercial port consisting of a roadstead anchorage for ocean going vessels and quays for small coasters. Morondava is situated on the west coast of Madagascar, on a tributary of the Morondava River.
Morondava port is situated in a lagoon bordered by mangroves and frequented by wooden, gaff rigged “boutres.” The small vessels fall dry in front of the 110 m long quay at low water. The maximum draft for the Eliot Channel connecting the port with the open sea and the anchorage for larger vessels is given at 2.5 m (low tide). A lighthouse at the southern shore of the channel entrance provides navigation guidance to the anchorage. Beachers could be moored on the southern shore inside the entrance to the lagoon close to the Morondava, Eliot Channel connecting sea and river port Morondava port end of a paved road to allow for manual unloading or stripping of containers.
