Onitsha Port (port code: NGONI) is a small river port in Anambra State, Nigeria. It is located on the eastern bank of the Niger River, which had been dredged from the sea to enable large vessels to use the port.
The port was built in 1983 and since then, it has been lying fallow and completely underutilized until 2012 when it was rehabilitated to accommodate vessels to ease Lagos Ports of congestion. But the port was yet to commence full operation since then.
The port was capable of handling 1,000 containers at once. It has facilities for handling break bulk, dry bulk, and containers.
