Porbandar (Port Code:INPBD) is an ancient port city. At present it has an all-weather port, with direct berthing facilities up to 50,000 DWT ships. The Port of Porbandar lies on the shores of the Arabian Sea in the state of Gujarat in northwestern India. The Port of Porbandar has long been a prosperous trading port. In 1920, Shri Narottam Morarji became the first person in India to own a steamer. He is known today as the Father of Indian Shipping, and the date he acquired the steamer is celebrated throughout India as The Maritime Day. Anchorage berths are also used for working cargo. The principal imports are low ash coke, fertilisers and scrap. The main exports are bauxite, cement, sesame seeds, abrasive cotton bales, mineral extracts and reefer cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 2,071,000t of cargo and 100 vessels handled annually.
