Port of Progreso (Port Code: MXPRO) is a port situated on the northern coast of Yucatan peninsula, in the Gulf of Mexico. It is the base of an important fishing industry and upon completion of 6.5 km long viaduct and port facilities in 1989, it has become main export & import gate for Yucatan area. The new port of Terminal Remota consists of a 3.5nm causeway with oil, dry bulk and container/general berths at the seaward end and a cruise terminal, 1nm along the causeway from the shoreline. Main exports include sisal, chewing-gum, fish and honey. Approximately 2,839,000t of cargo and 650 vessels are handled annually.
