Caldera Port (port code: CRPCA / CRPTC) is principal port terminal for the railway to San Jose and a major container port for the area. It lies at the mouth of the Nicoya Gulf on the Pacific Ocean side of Costa Rica.
The port covers over 240 thousand square meters. Its developed area contains three main docks, warehouses, yards, and administrative buildings. With a total 490 meters of berths, its storage yards cover over 70 thousand square meters. Its warehouses cover 13.2 thousand square meters for handling general cargoes. There is one long breakwater running approximately 300 meters from west to east, then another 300 meters from northwest to southeast which protects the port from the west and southwest.
The port has facilities for general cargo, Ro-Ro and bulk solid cargoes. Major cargoes handled by it include containers, solid bulk, iron, fruit, tuna, vehicles, and general merchandise.
Each year about 117 vessels visit this port, among which around 79% are cargo vessels, and 10% are fishing vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 334 meters. The maximum draught is 12.5 meters. The maximum deadweight is 63,851t.
