Samana port (Port Code:DOSAM) is mainly used as a passenger terminal but is able to handle general cargo, containers, cement and break bulk. It is situated on the N coast of the island in Samana Bay. The port of Samana is known by several other names, Puerto Duarte, Puerto Batadero, El Botado and Arroyo Barril, as there is a landing strip of this name nearby. This port was inaugurated in 1977 and its operations are based on the reception of loose general cargo and tourist vessels. It is also known as Arroyo Barril or Puerto Duarte and it is located in the bay of Samaná. It can handle oversized load, heavy load, general load and cement. The facilities consist of one finger pier with a small, modern passenger terminal.
