San Antonio Este Port (port code: ARSAE) is the largest port in Chile. It is located on the northwest side of the Golfe San Matias, adjacent to the Villarino peninsula, approximately 60 kilometers by road from San Antonio Oeste (old port) which is on the other side of the bay.
The new port has a natural deep harbour allowing vessels to lie in 10 meters of water in complete shelter. The pier was built by the provincial authorities, to facilitate the export of fruit from the Rio Negro valley, taking advantage of the government policy to grant export rebates on cargoes exported from Patagonian ports. There are fishing vessels presently operating at port, frequently transferring their catch directly to ocean going reefer vessels at anchor off the port but occasionally alongside, particularly when sorting of cargo is required.
Each year about 40 vessels visit the port, among which around 50% are fishing vessels, 21.5% are cargo vessels, and 14% are military vessel. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 187 meters. The maximum draught is 8.1 meters. The maximum deadweight is 28,186t.
