Sasebo Port (Port Code: JPSSB) is a port located on the eastern coast of Kyushu, Japan’s third largest island. Sasebo is a large-sized, deep-water port with a significant naval presence. The harbour is sheltered by a screen of islands, thereby providing good protection from typhoons. Aside from the naval berths, the port area is home to numerous heavy industries and also has berths for tanker operations. It is a busy fishing and commercial port, and it is home to shipbuilding and related industries that dominate the local economy. The Sasebo Heavy Industries Company Ltd. shipyard is located next to the naval base. Lightering can be carried out. Approximately 200 vessels visit the port annually.
