Winneba Port (Port Code: GHWEA) is a port lying along the Gulf of Guinea (an embayment of the Atlantic Ocean) near the mouth of the Ayensu River. It used to be a roadstead port dependent upon the forest products of the area around Swedru (15 miles north-northwest). All port activities ceased in 1962, however, with the opening of the harbour at Tema. Winneba Port has since than mainly functioned as a fishing port, and also for agriculture (coconut palm) as well as some tourism, as it has a bathing beach. Pop.
