The Port of Karlstad (Port Code:SEKAD) is Vänerhamn’s biggest facility, with extensive storage space and high-capacity equipment. The port handles oil, wood products, paper and bioenergy products and heavy-lift shipments for the region’s businesses. Karlstad is also home to Vänerterminalen, which stores, reloads and distributes paper products for its customers. The port of Karlstad is the largest port on Lake Vanern, 200km northeast of Gothenburg, reached from the sea via the Trollhatte Canal. It handles many varied cargoes, the main ones being oil and wood products and heavy lift items. The port is kept open all year, the canal freezes but is kept open all year, though there are tonnage limitations during the ice period. Max vessel size: LOA 87m, beam 12.6m, draught 4.7m, airdraught 27m. With special permission a vessel of LOA 88m, beam 13.2m and draught 5.4m may be accepted.
