Alicante Elche Airport (IATA Code: ALC, ICAO Code: LEAL), is located in the municipality of Elche, about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) east of this city and about 9 km southwest of Alicante. As of 2019, it is the fifth-busiest airport in Spain based on passenger numbers, and the main airport serving the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. It is the gateway to the Costa Blanca resort region, serving both Valencia Community and the Region of Murcia. The essential role of tourism is reflected in the percentage of international passenger flights that this airport handles, around 90% of the total. The main countries of origin of these passengers are the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway. Scheduled domestic traffic has also increased in recent years.
