Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (IATA code: ASU, ICAO code: SGAS), formerly known as President Stroessner International Airport, is a joint military-public airport serving the capital city of Paraguay, Asunción and, indirectly, the nearby city of Clorinda, Formosa, Argentina. Located within the municipality of Luque, 10 kilometers (6 miles) from downtown Asunción, it is the main national and international gateway of Paraguay.
The airport’s terminal building splits into two international concourses, the north concourse with two gates (5 and 6) and the south concourse with four gates (1 to 4). Due to the 15% of increase in travellers at the airport from 2013 to 2017, the airport had been undergoing a series of renovation. By January 2013, there were various improvements to the airport terminal to elevate to 2 million annually the reception of passengers in travel.
In 2019, the airport handled a record 1.24 million passengers, making it the busiest airport in the country.
