Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI, ICAO: HECA)is the principal international airport of Cairo and the busiest airport in Egypt, and even the second busiest Airport in Africa, which serves as the primary hub for EgyptAir and Nile Air as well as several other airlines.
The airport occupies approximately 37 square kilometers (14 sq mi) and is located in Heliopolis, 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) from the city's business area. The airport has three terminals, making Cairo have the capability to handle 40 million passengers annually. There are also three runways and a single cargo terminal. Runway 05R/23L is 4,000m long and suitable for the Airbus A380; 05L/23R has 4,000m, and 16/34 is 3,180m (all runways are 60m wide). Cairo Airport also handles all air cargo general and specific commodities through 132,000 square meters with special attention managed by Cairo Airport Cargo Company.
