Kefalonia Int. Airport (IATA code: EFL, ICAO code: LGKF) is an important airport in Greece. It is on the Ionian island of the same name, between Lefkada and Zakynthos in the Gulf of Patras. Together with the neighbouring island Ithaka and the uninhabited Echinades, it forms a prefecture of its own. The airport is administered by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, which is also responsible for monitoring Greek aerospace.
Since its initial construction in 1971, Kefalonia airport faced many physical upgrades and continues to serve its mission, which is to provide airplane transportation options to local tourists, businessmen and foreign people. Kefalonia Airport serves more than 400,000 travelers per year, with the Summer months being the busiest of all.
