Scholes International Airport (IATA code: GLS, ICAO code: KGLS) is a public airport located three miles southwest of Galveston, in Galveston County, Texas, United States.
The original airport terminal opened in 1950 and was considered the most modern of its type in the southwest with fancy amenities such as air conditioning. The 10,000 square-feet terminal building was renovated and reopened on April 7, 2011.
Covering a total area of 966 acres (391 hectares), the airport is owned and operated by the City of Galveston, and is categorized by the FAA as a General Aviation Reliever Airport. GA activity includes private aviation, corporate travel, and air taxi operations. The most frequent traffic is that of the helicopters that support the offshore oil and gas industry operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
