IAD refers to the IATA Code of Washington Dulles International Airport, which is often called as Dulles International Airport/Dulles Airport as well. It is located in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties in Virginia, about 26 miles away from Washington, D.C.
The location of Dulles International Airport (at the heart of East Coast) is rather strategically advantageous. That is why the airport has been viewed as an international gateway in the Mid-Atlantic Region, with the capability of arranging more than 300 thousand tons of air cargo annually.
With the current land area gradually increasing to 11,184 acres, IAD Airport has been focusing its efforts on airport facility construction. Now the airport has 113 airline gates, five concourses (named Concourse A/B/C/D/Z ), one International Arrivals Building, four runways, and three pubilc parking garages. The airport development plan is still on progress.
According to Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, 500+ air cargo aircraft depart towards major cargo centers in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East on a weekly basis, and there are 1800+ flights connecting to domestic destinations every week. Transporting cargo via air is made more flexible and efficient at the same time.
The figures above confirm the importance of Washington Dulles International Airport in transporting inbound and outbound air cargo shipments. However, IAD Airport does not stop there. It proposed a master plan designated to satisfy the growing air cargo needs. With this plan carried out, the potential air cargo services will be leveraged to the utmost, the airport infrastructure will be put into the best use, and more international air cargo carriers will be integrated.
It is forecast by Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority that the air cargo volume handled by Dulles Airport will land between 139,400 tonnages and 187,540 tonnages in 2045. With some of its current air cargo facilities (including 6 warehouse buildings, truck docks, and aircraft parking areas) being functionally outdated, Dulles Airport has incorporated the project to repair or replace the old ones into the master development plan. New facilities will be built if necessary, so the future air cargo demands can be met.
Dulles Airport is devoted to providing a sound international trading environment by giving access to Foreign Trade Zone #137. Air cargo services, like cargo screening, customs clearance, cargo storage, and bonded warehousing, are offered there. All kinds of goods, such as sophisticated equipment, pharmaceuticals, perishables, and live animals, are guaranteed to get safe handling. Besides, the airport offers 24-hour air cargo operations.
Non-stop flight services are available both domestically and internationally. It connects more than 130 destinations worldwide. Here you can get to know the comprehensive list by visiting the official webpage: https://www.flydulles.com/flight-information/nonstop-destinations
