Kansai International Airport(IATA Code:KIX,ICAO Code:RJBB) is the primary international airport in the Greater Osaka Area of Japan.It is located in Osaka Bay, 35km south of the centre of Osaka, Japan.The airport serves as a hub for several airlines such as All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Nippon Cargo Airlines. It is the international gateway for Japan's Kansai region, which contains the major cities of Kyoto, Kobe, and Osaka. It has been marketed as an alternative to Narita Airport for international travelers from the Greater Tokyo Area. The airport previously operated on a single 3,500m runway and was capable of handling up to 160,000 departures and arrivals per year. With the addition of a second runway, this number is expected to rise to up to 230,000 departures and arrivals by 2011.
