Kuwait International Airport (IATA code: KWI, ICAO code: OKBK) is a civilian and military international airport serving Kuwait City, Kuwait. It is located in the Farwaniya Governorate, 15.5 kilometers (9.6 miles) south of the centre of Kuwait City, spreading over an area of 37.7 square kilometres (14.6 square miles).
The airport will have five operational, numbered terminals by 2022. Terminal 1 is the primary building and has 16 gates. Terminal 2 will expand the airport's overall capacity by 25–50 million passengers per year through the introduction of a triangular building with 28 gates, 4,500 additional parking spaces and a 400-bed air-side hotel. It is one of the world's largest environment friendly airport projects. Terminal 3 is a small building and conceived for use by private aircraft. It is closed presently. Terminal 4 covers an area of 55,000 square meters and can handle 4.5 million passengers annually, helping easing congestion at Terminal 1. Inaugurated in May 2018, Terminal 5 is exclusively used by Kuwait-based budget airline Jazeera Airways.
The annual passenger traffic at the airport has been increasing in recent years. In 2019, it handled about 15.4 million passengers and 243,442 metric tonnes of cargo.
