Lapangan Terbang Sultan Mahmud Airport(IATA Code:TGG, ICAO Code: WMKN) is an airport in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, Malaysia. The airport serves Kuala Terengganu which is located is located 15 km from town. The Airport was named after the 16th Sultan of Terengganu.In 2017, it handled 943,660 passengers with 11,485 aircraft movements.To 2019,it witnessed a mild decrease in terms of passengers but a small increase in cargo volume.It has a single runway (3,480m) and serves Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and Air Asia. It also handles flights to Jeddah and Mecca, during the annual Hajj pilgrimage.In 2008, plans were made to upgrade the Sultan Mahmud Airport. The upgrades included improvements to the terminal and runway extensions.The terminal was designed to handle 2 million passengers every year. Malaysia Airlines has agreed with Tabung Haji that it will also bring passengers to Mecca via Jeddah and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
