Visakhapatnam Airport (IATA code: VTZ, ICAO code: VOVZ) is the busiest airport in the state of Andhra Pradesh, serving the city of Vizag and nearby areas. Owned by the Indian Navy and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), it holds the unique distinction of functioning as a civilian airport as well as a naval air station. It lies between the city localities of NAD X Road and Gajuwaka, covering an area of 350 acres.
The airport has experienced significant growth since the beginning of the 21st century, with the construction of a new terminal and runway and the commencing of international flights. The new passenger terminal was opened in 2009 and can handle 2 million passengers per annum with 20 check-in counters which include 11 immigration and nine customs counters.
The airport ushered in a peak of 2,815,205 passengers in 2019, following increases in passenger traffic for three consecutive years.
