Nanaimo Airport (IATA code: YCD, ICAO code: CYCD) is a privately owned and operated regional airport located 7 nautical miles (13 kilometers; 8.1 miles) south southeast of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. It was one of the fastest growing airports in BC with 435,000 passengers handled, which represented an increase of 21.5% over 2017 in 2018.
In 2016 the Nanaimo Airport Commission Board of Directors approved a 20-year Master Development Plan for the terminal building. The expansion project fulfills three critical priorities for the Commission: regional economic development; economic stimulus through infrastructure construction; and meeting escalating demand for air service through the next decade. The project will increase the passenger seating area in our departure lounge and provide increased security screening capacity. The groundbreaking for the Terminal Expansion Project was held on April 17, 2018 and the project was completed in February 2020.
This $14.5 million expansion was the first phase of the 20-year Master Plan for the Nanaimo Airport Air Terminal Building. This project has added 14,000 square feet of space, increasing the current footprint by approximately 60%, providing additional comfort and convenience for travelers.
