Ayios Nikolaos port (port code: GRANS) is a small port situated in eastern Crete, Greece. This port is actually a harbour (about 200m in length) near the larger ports of Greece and Turkey and a favourite destination for cruise liners in the south-eastern Mediterranean available for docking throughout the year.
The port consists of three piers and an inner harbour, which is restricted to local fishing vessels. Although the port is restricted to vessels of up to 20,000DWT, vessels up to 100,000DWT can anchor in the Bay of Mirabello. The types of vessels regularly calling at the port are sailing vessel (52%), passenger ship (15%), pleasure craft (15%), high speed craft (5%) and passenger vessels (5%).
Exports from this port include olive oil, vegetable oil, carobs and almonds. Main imports are fuel, timber, cement, fruit, flour, sugar, potatoes and cheese.
