Albany port (port code: USALB), also the Port of Albany–Rensselaer, is situated on the west bank of the Hudson River, approximately 123 nautical miles north of New York, covering roughly 236 acres (96 ha), including about 202 acres (82 ha) in Albany and 34 acres (14 ha) in Rensselaer. Albany is a port of entry, the terminus for deep draught vessels on the Hudson River and an important shipping port. There is year-round navigation and the port has deep draught facilities on both the east and west side of the river.
The principal cargoes handled in this port are petroleum products, grain, molasses, scrap iron, forest products and heavy lift project cargo. The port has specialised in the importing, handling, processing and storage of cocoa beans and is well placed to serve the grinding plants in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Canada. It handles a total of approximate 780,000 tons of cargo annually.
