Alexandroupolis port (port code: GRALE) is a medium port situated on the northeast coast of Greece close to the Greek/Turkish border, approximately 210 nautical miles of Athens. The port comprises an open roadstead, an artificial harbour and an offshore tanker berth, situated at the seaward end of a submarine pipeline extending 0.35 nautical miles from the coast, approximately 1 nautical mile east of the port.
The port of Alexandroupolis has been used principally by travelers and there are daily services to the islands of Samothrace and Lemnos. In terms of cargoes, the port handles mainly timber, general and bulk cargoes. Grain cargoes are handled from August to next January. Alexandroupolis port handles approximately 1,400,000 tons of cargo, 29,000 vehicles, 160,000 passengers and 2,800 vessels annually.
