Algeciras Port (port code: ESALG) is Spain’s largest container port and crude oil import port and the second largest container port in the Mediterranean region. It is situated in a deep, natural harbour at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, on the west side of Algeciras Bay.
The port has three subports, namely Campamento port, Endesa port and Tarifa port. It is an important centre for handling international transhipments and direct container cargoes, also a terminus for the busy ferry and Ro-Ro traffic between Spain and North Africa. It is still growing, in both traffic and infrastructure.
The port handles approximately 69.8 million tons of cargo, 3.04 million TEUs and 4.8 million passengers with 24,500 vessels annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for about 52%; and tankers, taking up around 30%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 400 meters. The maximum draught is 16.5 meters. The maximum deadweight is 228,600t.
