Assab Port (port code: ERASA) is the second largest port in Eritrea, behind Massawa. It is situated on the west side of the south Red Sea.
The total port area extends to approximately 890,000 square meters of which 45% is covered storage area. The commercial harbour has 7 berths for dry cargo ships, 1 Ro-Ro and 3 oil terminals.
The port handles approximately 1.2 million tons of dry cargo, 1.3 million tons of liquid cargo and 32,000TEU annually. The main exports leaving this port include hides, skins, linseed, castor oil seeds, neuk seeds, coffee, cereals and dry fish. The principal imports entering this port are crude oil and refined products in bulk, oil in drums, general merchandise, machinery, transport equipment and cement. About 95% of the cargo handled are destined for Ethiopia.
