Balboa Port (port code: PABLB) is the terminal port for the Pacific Ocean end of the Panama Canal and is Panama’s second largest port. Strategically positioned at the south entrance of the canal, just ten kilometers southwest of Panama City, Panama’s capital, and five kilometers west-southwest of the Port of Panama, it a major player in world commerce and transportation with the world's biggest shipping lines calling on the port regularly.
Covering an area of 182 hectares, the port consists of 19 berths, located on either side of the Canal, which are able to accommodate general, bulk, container and passenger vessels.
The port handles a third of all cargo moving through Panama's ports. It handles some 2.2 million TEUs annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for about 44%; dredging vessels, taking up around 23%; and sailing vessels, taking a proportion of 13%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 367 meters. The maximum draught is 15.1 meters. The maximum deadweight is 154,781t.
