Balikpapan Port (port code: IDBPN) is a medium-sized port in Indonesia. It is situated in the province of East Kalimantan on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), on the west side of the Makassar Strait.
The port is a major oil tanker port, but it also handles general, forest products, rattan and scrap iron. The port has a large oil refinery. There are a coal terminal and a ferry terminal. The port can handle 1,000 tons of crude oil, 500 tons of aviation oil per hour, 1,200 tons of naphtha per hour, and 800 tons of kerosene per hour. The port’s warehouse has a storage capacity of 85,000 tons.
With facilities for handling break bulk, liquid and dry bulk, the port handles approximately 34.5 million tons of cargo and 93,000 TEUs annually. Each year about 6,000 vessels visit this port annually, among which around 31% are tankers, 27% are dredging vessels, and 21% are cargo vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 222 meters. The maximum draught is 11.2 meters. The maximum deadweight is 50,553t.
