Berbera Port (port code: SOBBO) is the largest port in northern Somalia. It is situated on the north coast of Somalia, in the southwest corner of the Gulf of Aden.
The port is formed by a low sandy spit to the north which acts as a breakwater for the quay to the south. Entrance width is about 800 meters, with depths between 16.4 and 18.3 meters, decreasing to 11.0 meters off the berths. There are three main berths in the port area. Two anchorages, inner and outer, provide safe anchorage and also act as pilot boarding areas.
The port handles approximately 240,000t of cargo annually. The main imports entering this port include cotton goods, sugar, rice and dates. The principal exports leaving this port include skins, ghee, gum, sheep and goats.
The type of vessels regularly calling at this port is cargo vessels, accounting for about 71.5%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 275 meters. The maximum draught is 12.4 meters. The maximum deadweight is 56,928t.
