Brest Port (port code: FRBES) is a medium-sized port in France. Situated on the northwest coast of France at the west entrance to the English Channel, approximately 550 kilometers from Paris, it is an important gateway to France and the European continent.
The port has extensive cargo handling and ship repair facilities including 21 commercial quays (totally 4,104 meters long), 3 dry docks and 2 repair quays. Its inter-modal terminal covers ten hectares and has 656 yards of wharf with a roll-on/roll-off linkspan and 200 electric outlets for refrigerated trailers and containers. Its bulk terminal has eight warehouses and is capable of unloading two vessels at the same time, storing 150 thousand tons of goods and moving nine thousand tons a day. Its oil terminal
has capacity for one thousand per day; and its gas terminal, 1.6 tons per day.
The port handles more than 2.8 million tons of cargo annually. The main cargoes handled are cement, cereals, timber, containers, freezer and general cargoes. Each year about 740 vessels and 27,000 passengers visit this port. The type of vessels regularly calling at this port is sailing vessels, accounting for about 50%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 345 meters. The maximum draught is 12.8 meters. The maximum deadweight is 158,594t.
