Bridport harbour (Port Code: GBBPT), also known as Wst Bay, is a port located 15 miles west of Dorchester at the western end of Chesil Beach. The area is part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. The harbour has 147 drying moorings, most of which are for private use. There are 15 commercial moorings for either fishing vessels or passenger vessels carrying fewer than 12 people. It was an important port in the 19th Century for shipbuilding and for exporting rope and nets. The previous main commercial trade of the harbour declined in the second half of the 19th century. The port is at present centre a for fishing, tourism (focused on boats and the beach) and geology.
