Brunsbuttel Port (Port Code: DEBRU) is a port located at the mouth of the Elbe Estuary at the western end of the Kiel Canal. This port is a multipurpose port with extended customer orientation and logistical competence. There is a trimodal terminal-connection at Brunsbüttel with efficient transport ways by truck, rail, feeder, sea vessels and barges, thus providing excellent conditions as logistical turntable. It consists of four harbours, the main harbour being Elbeharbour (Elbehafen) which is directly on the Elbe River and three harbours inside the Kiel Canal. As an important port, it handles all traffic entering and leaving the southwestern end of the canal through locks which divide the port into Elbehafen Brunsbuttel and Brunsbuttel Binnenhafen, tidal and non-tidal areas, respectively. The majority of cargo handled at Elbeharbour is crude oil, liquid gas and a wide range of bulk commodities. Approx 7,836,000t of cargo and 26,255TEU are handled annually.
