Buenaventura Port (port code: COBUN) is the largest port in Colombia. It is situated on the Pacific coast in the Bay of Buenaventura, approximately 8 nautical miles up the Dagua River on Cascajal Island.
The port provides facilities for handling solid bulks include silos with capacity for storing 160 thousand tons and handling 5.5 thousand tons per day. The solid bulk terminals include sheds covering almost 35 thousand square meters and warehouse of about 58 thousand meters. It also has covered parking for 300 vehicles. The port’s container terminal has docks of 2000 meters which can serve vessels of up to 100 DWT. Terminal storage has capacity for handling 10.5 thousand containers per day.
The port handles a wide range of cargoes, including containers and solid and liquid bulks. It handles approximately 8.5 million tons of cargo including 707,500TEU annually. Each year about 1,300 vessels visit this port, among which around 70% are cargo vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 369 meters. The maximum draught is 14.2 meters. The maximum deadweight is 154,792t.
