Burnie Port (port code: AUBWT) is a medium-sized commercial port in Australia. It is situated on the western shore of Emu Bay on the north coast of Tasmania.
The port handles overseas traffic and is a terminal for vessels trading between Tasmania and Melbourne, second only to Hobart as a deep-water port and container terminal. It has facilities for a variety of cargoes on 4 main piers.
The port is equipped to handle all types of cargo, including containers, general cargo, bulk concentrates, petroleum, tallow, seafood, limestone, coal, paper pulp, woodchips, logs, fruit, vegetables and livestock. It handles approximately 4.45 million tons of cargo and 227,000TEU annually.
The breakwater runs northwest along the eastern side of the harbour. Large quarter ramp vessels can be accommodated at 3 berths with one stern loading ramp. Each year about 540 vessels visit this port, among which around 64% are cargo vessels, 14% are dredging vessels, and 14% are military vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 229 meters. The maximum draught is 9.4 meters. The maximum deadweight is 70,500t.
