Caen Port (port code: FRCFR) is France’s 10th busiest port. It is situated on the banks of the Orne River, about 15 kilometers inland to the south of the English Channel.
The port covers 153 hectares of land and contains 14 hectares of buildings, offering facilities for handling break bulk, container, liquid, and dry bulk. It handles bulk grain, wood products, fertilisers, scrap, salt, molasses and hydrocarbons. Each year over 3 million tons of cargo are handled.
There is daily cross channel ferry traffic from Ouistreham. Over 500 vessels and l million passengers visit this port annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are dredging vessels, accounting for about 60%; and passenger vessels and tankers, each taking up around 20%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 140 meters. The maximum draught is 5.8 meters. The maximum deadweight is 5,019t.
