Cherbourg Port (port code: FRCER) is a modern and efficient multipurpose French port on the English Channel. It is located at the end of the Cotentin Peninsula on the north France coast, at the western end of the English Channel, on the mouth of the Divette River.
The port is lock free and provides easy access for the largest vessels with a minimum depth of water of 13.0 meters. It has Ro-Ro and Lo-Lo facilities, large storage facilities and good road and rail connections. Cross channel ferry passengers and Ro-Ro traffic to UK and Ireland is the main trade of this port. Some cruise ship also visits.
The port handles more than 2.7 million tons of cargo and 781,400 passengers annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are sailing vessels, accounting for about 45%; pleasure craft, taking up around 10%; and fishing vessels, taking a proportion of 7%.
