Damietta port (port code: EGDAM) is a large port in Egypt. It is situated 8 kilometers west of the entrance to the Damietta branch of the River Nile, near Ras El-Bar and approximately 70 kilometers west of Port Said, 250 kilometers east of Alexandria.
Covering an area of about 25 square kilometers (9.6 square miles), the port has 14 berths totaling 3.3 kilometers (2.1 miles) in length and a capacity to handle 5.6 million tons of cargo per year. The container terminal of this port covers 60.6 hectares and has capacity for 50 thousand TEUs per year. The port also contains 1.9 hectares of storage for general cargo, 26.5 hectares for containers, and 14.7 hectares for refrigerated cargo, and has the biggest fishing fleets on the Mediterranean, accounting for half of Egypt's fishing fleet.
The port handles more than 19.7 million tons of cargo annually, including 1,264,000TEU. The main exports from this port are agricultural products, fertilisers and furniture, and the principal imports include cement, grain, general cargo and containers.
Each year about 3,130 vessels visit this port, among which around 81.5% are cargo vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 367 meters. The maximum draught is 14.7 meters. The maximum deadweight is 153,514t.
