Donghae port (port code: KRTGH), formerly known as Tonghae port, is the largest port in eastern South Korea. Located on the east side of the Korean peninsula, approximately 300 kilometers from Seoul, this port has sufficient depth of water, with only minor tidal changes, for large international vessels, including recent new container traffic.
The port handles approximately 3,600 vessels and over 20,000,000t of cargo annually. The principal cargoes handled are break bulk cement, soft coal, limestone and gypsum. About 47% of the vessels regularly calling at the port are cargo vessels. Allowing for a maximum draught of 12.5 meters and a maximum deadweight of 60,000t, this port had once handled a container vessel loaded with 9,991TEU.
