Montpellier Port (port code: FRMPL) is a dry port in the department of Hérault, in the region of Occitania, in southern France. It is situated on the river Lez, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) inland from the Mediterranean coast, 170 kilometers (106 miles) from Marseille, 242 kilometers (150 miles) from Toulouse, and 748 kilometers (465 miles) from Paris.
In 12th century, the port had trading links across the Mediterranean world and mainly exported spice. Wine was also one of the principal exports.
