Flensburg port (port code: DEFLE / DEFLF) is the most northly port in Germany, with border access to Denmark and situated at the head of Flensburg Fjord, 16 nautical miles from the Flensburger Foerde Buoy.
Extending about 1 nautical mile north and south and 0.3 nautical miles east and west, with the docks situated on both sides, the port covers a total area of 119 hectares, with a land area of 9 hectares. In very severe winters the port has been known to freeze over.
The port handles approximately 540,000t of cargo annually. The principal cargoes handled are feedstuffs, coal, fuel oil, stone chips, fertiliser, grain and general cargo.
Each year about 930,000 passengers and 200 vessels visit this port annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are sailing vessels, accounting for around 48%, and cargo vessels, taking up approximate 26%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 139 meters. The maximum draught is 7.6 meters. The maximum deadweight is 8,334t.
