Freeport port (port code: BSFPO) is a medium-sized port in Bahamas. It is situated on the southwest side of Grand Bahama Island at the mouth of Hawksbill Creek.
The port is an important cruise vessel port of call and repair centre. It can accommodate 8 cruise vessels at the same time. Container, Ro-Ro and general cargo vessels are also handled. Because of its closeness to the USA, a number of companies have moved their transhipment business to the port. The tanker terminal is operated by the Bahamas Oil Refining Corporation (BORCO).
The port handles approximately 280,000t of cargo and 1,100,000TEU annually. Main imports to this port are agricultural products and building supplies. Principal exports from this port include seafood, aggregates and agricultural products.
Each year about 2,210 vessels visit this port, among which around 37% are cargo vessels and 20% are tankers. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 353 meters. The maximum draught is 15 meters. The maximum deadweight is 297,950t.
