Funafuti Port (Port Code: TVFUN) is a coastal port situated on Fongafale Island on the East side of Funafuti atoll. Funafuti Atoll is Tuvalu Islands' principal port (seaport and airport) as well as the country's capital city, with population around 6,000 (or ~60% of Tuvalu's total population). The atoll covers a total land area approximately 2,4 km2 (0,9 mi2) and consists of narrow land ranging in width between 20-400 m (66-1312 ft). The land encircles the Te Namo (seawater lagoon) sized 275 km2 (106 mi2) or 18x14 km (11x9 mi), with average depth ~37 m (120 ft). Funafuti Wharf is on the West side of the North arm of the island, 1nm North of the main town of Vaiaku. Cargo handled include general cargo, containers and oil. Approximately 20 vessels visit the port annually.
