Giurgiulești port (port code: MDGIU), officially known as the Giurgiulești International Free Port (GIFP) is Moldova's only port accessible to seagoing vessels. It is situated on the Danube River at its confluence with the Prut in the south of Moldova, 133.8 kilometers (72.2 nautical miles) from the Black Sea.
The port operates both a grain and an oil terminals as well as a passenger terminal. The building of an oil terminal started in 1996 and it was launched on 26 October 2006. Giurgiulești passenger port was officially opened on 17 March 2009, when the first sea passenger trip Giurgiulești-Istanbul-Giurgiulești was launched. The Grain Transhipment Terminal was opened on 24 July 2009. A container facility was added in 2012.
The port handles approximately 300,000t of cargo annually. About 55% of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 250 meters. The maximum draught is 6.6 meters. The maximum deadweight is 10,052t.
